The new U9 Xtreme from Yangwang has achieved a 6:59.157 lap around the 20.832 km Nürburgring Nordschleife — making it the fastest electric supercar ever on the legendary circuit and the first of its kind to go under seven minutes.

Record and Performance Highlights

  • Lap time: 6:59.157 (Nordschleife, August 22, 2025)

  • Powertrain: 1200-volt architecture with four motors, each spinning up to 30,000 rpm

  • Total output: Over 3,000 PS

  • Power-to-weight ratio: Approx. 1,217 PS per tonne

  • Platform: Yangwang “e⁴” with “DiSus-X” intelligent body-control system

  • Track upgrades: Enhanced cooling, titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic brakes, and semi-slick GitiSport e·GTR² PRO tyres

  • Production: Limited to about 30 units

Engineering and Development

Yangwang began extensive Nürburgring testing in mid-2024 to fine-tune the U9 Xtreme’s chassis, power delivery, and electronic systems. The resulting record lap surpasses the previous electric supercar benchmark by more than five seconds — a major milestone for the brand.

The 1200 V quad-motor setup provides exceptional acceleration and torque vectoring, while the advanced suspension and cooling systems ensure stability and endurance on the demanding Nordschleife. The result is a car that excels in both raw speed and cornering precision.

Official Statements

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, said:

“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what can be achieved through technology, and the Nürburgring is such a legendary challenge for cars and drivers that it is only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there. I congratulate the entire team on this phenomenal achievement. The limited-edition U9 Xtreme has proven that it is not only the world’s fastest car in a straight line, but also a vehicle with the performance and dynamic qualities necessary to break lap records on a circuit with a wide variety of corners.”

Moritz Kranz, the professional driver who piloted the record-setting lap, added:

“The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track, and our lap time is a testament to the development skills of BYD and Yangwang. Without their intense work to balance a high-powered EV platform with the difficult demands of the chassis set-up, this great lap time would not have been possible.”

Strategic Impact

Following its earlier top-speed record of 496.22 km/h at Papenburg, the Nürburgring achievement reinforces Yangwang’s position as a leader in ultra-high-performance electric vehicles. The U9 Xtreme represents both a technical showcase and a collector’s piece — blending extreme power, innovation, and precision engineering.

Looking Ahead

Having proven its 1200 V platform and quad-motor system in one of the most challenging motorsport environments, Yangwang is expected to adapt these technologies for future performance-focused EVs within the BYD Group’s expanding portfolio.
