Aspark Owl

This is the new Aspark Owl, a new and absolutely mad full-electric hypercar from Japan. Aspark is an engineering company based in Osaka. Development of the Owl started in 2018. The goal: To create the fastest accelerating car in the world. They succeeded; the Owl speeds from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in an absolutely amazing 1.9 seconds (0-60 mph in 1.69 seconds). But it doesn’t end there. The Owl goes to 300 kilometers per hour in 10.6 seconds and top speed is 400 kilometers per hour, making it the fastest electric hypercar so far.

Aspark Owl

The Aspark Owl gets to these warp speeds by combining an extremely slippery body with a light weight chassis and with a very powerful set of electric motors. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis weighs just 120 kilos. The body panels are made if carbon fiber too, with the exception of a stainless-steel frame in the roof. Dry weight of the entire vehicle is 1900 kilos. The Owl rides on double wish-bone suspension system with hydraulic dampers, keeping the body a slow to the road as possible. And low it is in anyway, as the Owl’s total height is only 99.3 centimeters.

Power comes from four permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), two at the front and two at the rear. The motors are coupled to a 64-kWh lithium ion battery pack which is fully integrated into the lower-chassis. Total output of the system is 1,985 horsepower and 2,000 Newton-meters of torque. Range is 450 kilometers measured by the now-mostly defunct NEDC standard. A larger battery pack is under development and will be offered as an update in the future.

Aspark Owl

Ultra fast speed needs ultra strong brakes. The Aspark Owl HAS ventilated carbon ceramic discs front and rear. The front brakes are fitted with 10-piston calipers (!!!). Most present-day supercars use 6-piston brake calipers. The rear brakes are fitted with 4-piston calipers, which is normal for this kind of car. The brake system is further supported by the rear wing that doubles as an active air brake by braking at high speeds. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport CUP, 265/35 ZR20 front and 325/30 ZR21 rear.

The Aspark Owl will be manufactured in Italy by Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT). Only 50 examples will be made, priced at $3.2 million each. Production is set to start in the second quarter of this year.
